JANTRA MANTRA - (New Delhi observatory) -- Built by the Rajput maharaja Swai Jai Singh II and consist of 5 observatories. “Jantar” is derived from the Sanskrit word “yantra” which means instrument and "mantra" means formula. Their design was to measure the declination, the height and the azimuth of the sun and stars.
This observatory was built in the period 1710 - 1724, and has 4 different instruments of stone. They are in a surprisingly good condition and are well looked after. A fun time spent with the locals here.
