EXPRESS POINT - Phillip Island is where the serious (or very brave or very crazy) surfers meet when the big swell and tide is up. Some great barrels form here for the adventurous to tackle, but as one of the pictures shows, the rocks at the sea floor are at times perilously close to the surface.

Photographing with a long lens not only magnifies the scenery but also any atmospheric disturbances, making the pictures appear less than sharp. A polarizing filter may help, but at the cost of 1-2 f stops. This again causes its own set of problems.
